Before you jump right into the healing prayers and information, I would like to encourage you to do a little preparation work first. By preparing yourself for the healing process, I believe that you will experience a greater level of breakthrough in this area.
Have Faith in God’s Promises
First, have faith in God’s promises for healing and restoration. His Word is true. He is Who He says He is, and He can do what He says He can do. Faith is choosing to believe and trust not only in Who He is, but that His words to you are true. The Bible tells us that faith is the expectation of things hoped for and believing in things unseen (Hebrews 11:1). It also tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Also that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
I recommend, especially if you are disappointed and discouraged by a lack of progress and/or healing in any area, that you first begin by searching through the Bible to find those verses that speak to God’s ability and willingness to save, heal, and deliver you. Read the stories of healing and deliverance found throughout the word, but especially in the gospels where Jesus healed and set so many free. God is not a respecter of persons (Acts 10:34), what He has done for one, He can and will do again.
Another great study to allow faith to rise within you is to review what the original word translated as “salvation” really means. Sozo includes being saved from your sins, but it also means healing and deliverance. Again, watch how this plays out in the life of Jesus as he walked on the earth. Not just saving, but healing and delivering people of many difficulties. Even financially as he caused a fish to have a coin in its mouth sufficient to pay His and a disciple’s temple tax. Salvation is a much more comprehensive concept than we typically think of in the church today although we’re learning!
Once you have several verses in hand, personalize them. Write them out as if God wrote them for you. Then read them aloud to yourself at least 3-5 times a day until you feel faith arising within you for your healing.
Set Your Intention for Healing and Freedom
Decide within yourself that you will pursue healing and deliverance until you achieve your goal. Most of the time, healing happens through layers as we gain a measure of healing step by step. God can, and sometimes does, heal and deliver people instantly, but often it is more of a process. I know for myself, that I’ve often not followed through with walking out my healing and have therefore relapsed into old habits – and found myself back where I was before. I’ll talk more about some practical steps to walk out your healing later, but determine in your heart now that you will not only be courageous enough to get healed, you will also be courageous enough to continue to pursue healing until those old habits shatter.
Recognize that God may heal you instantly, but that He also may do so step by step as you unlearn bad habits and replace them with good habits. But the healing will come either way.
Allow Yourself Time and Grace for the Process
Give yourself time to think and pray and prepare before you begin the healing process.
Give yourself time and grace to work through the process as you go.
Give yourself time and grace to walk out your healing and freedom.
Give yourself time and grace to learn better habits and coping strategies.
Celebrate your wins. Focus your attention on the progress you’ve made and don’t listen to the enemy as he tries to get you back in the pit you’ve just climbed out of or another pit beside it. God is counting the number of times you get up and try again. He is counting the steps you take. He isn’t counting how many times you trip and fall. I really recommend that you don’t either.
Remember watching a baby learning to walk. They are horrible at it. They wobble all over the place; they fall down all the time. As walkers or runners, they’re not very successful. But, when the mom calls grandma, what does she tell her? How many steps baby took – there’s never a mention of how many times they fell or how wobbly they are. Just the delight in the progress that the baby has made. No one expects the baby to run a marathon!
That’s how God sees us, I’m convinced of it. He understands perfectly where we’ve been and what we’ve been through. God doesn’t expect us to magically do something perfectly that we’ve never done before. He delights in every step we take. We’re the ones who seem to think we should go from the cradle to the gold medal platform at the Olympics, not God.
Give yourself the same grace He gives you for your journey. God is with you. He is leading you and putting resources in front of you so you can find your way home or find your way to greater and greater healing.
Don’t Listen to the Can’t’s
Don’t listen to the voice that tells you you can’t do this or that you’re not strong enough. You’ve survived what the enemy meant for your destruction. You are stronger than you know. And God is giving you even more strength to pursue the healing He has for you. Yes you. I can’t promise you it will be easy or give you a guarantee as to time or layers or anything. But I can remind you that God has promised to never leave you or forsake you. Never. He’s ready to walk with you on this journey towards healing and freedom. Are you ready?
Over the next however long, I’ll be writing blogs targeting particular issues, and walking you through healing of the various factors involved. I’m intentionally spacing them out so you can work through them steadily. I’m praying for you and hope to hear of the progress you make as we embark on this journey.
